The passenger oxygen system on the Lockheed L-1011 is a continous flow chemically generated oxygen system. The oxygen is the product of a chemical reaction which takes place inside a canister. The canister components are:
Electric initiator
Sodium chlorate block and iron powder
Exit filter
Insulation layer
Stainless steel container
Once the chemical reaction is started, it cannot be stopped until the reacting agents are depleted.

The panel itself has only two front elements, however the inside of the panel has control and test elements for the entire passenger oxygen system. The front panel control elements are:
OXYGEN FLOW LIGHT ... illuminates to indicate that all passenger oxygen generators have been activated.
MANUAL CONTROL SWITCH ... momentary switch, which when depressed, immediately startes the sequence activation of the oxygen generator and mask groups.
