L-1011 Avionics Bending: SFENA HSI and ARINC 429 - Part 14

SFENA HSI - Dual Setup - ARINC 429
Now that one of the HSIs is working fine I am looking into integrating both the Captain's HSI as well as the First Officer's HSI with the Flight simulator. The cool thing is that because of the ARINC 429 protocol we really only need a total of 3 channels to simulate the 12 channels that instrument required when it was deployed on the actual aircraft.

Below is a short video the shows both HSIs receiving the same ARINC 429 test data. The data labels sent to the instruments for the test are:

  • Label 320 .. Magnetic Heading as a full 360º circle
  • Label 100 .. Selected Radial as a full 360º rotation
  • Label 222 .. Omnibearing from a VOR in a full 360º circle

During the roll of the Radial and the Omnibearing the TO/FROM pointers are changing directions as the simulated VOR moves from the front to the back of the simulated aircraft.
