Original Flight Hardware: APU Fire Extinguisher Control

The Fire Pull T-Handles are located in the pilot's overhead panel for the engines and at the top of the second officer's upper instrument panel. The picture above shows the fire t-handle for the Lockheed L-1011 APU. There is a mechanical latch that holds the t-handle in place and which must be depressed prior to pulling the the handle.

Most fire zones on the Lockheed L-1011 have two fire bottles each. For example, the engines and the APU have two bottles each. The bottles are discharged with the momentary switch behind the t-handle. During the discharge, the respective annunciator will illuminate with either "MAIN DISCH" or "ALT DISCH". The fire t-handle will illuminate bright red when a fire or overheat condition has been detected.
