L-1011 - CPT Installation at the Museum - Flooring

L-1011 Trainer - Carpet Cleanup

Today we worked on some pretty basic things. Jim Blasco, Richard Grigg and myself installed the cockpit carpet edge rails and then cleaned the carpet. It sounds like such a trivial task, but given the fact that we had pile of rails (see image below) it turned out to become a gigantic jigsaw puzzle.

First we installed a number of screws around the center console that finally secured the console to the platform underneath. then we placed "L" shaped carpet edge pieces around the platform. The trim pieces are the original trim pieces installed by Singer/Link in the 1980s.

Two decades of commercial use in the Delta Airlines training department had left the carpet pretty ugly in places. Plus the fact that the unit was stored for a while didn't help either. So the carpet ended up being soaked in dust and other coffee-spill-accident leftovers.

But Richard has just the right power-tool for that. A super cool carpet cleaning machine. And it really made a huge difference (see image on top of this posting). Below is a picture of Richard doing his magic.

The L-1011 Trainer built by Singer/Link has 3 main interface distribution panel. They worked pretty good for the original trainer, however, since we will be re-tooling the trainer with real instrumentation we will be reconfiguring these interface plates. Below is an image of one of the three plates after removal from the main instrument panel.
