Just like any other commercial aircraft, the Lockheed L-1011 is equipped with a flight data recorder. The flight data recorder stores a number of aircraft parameters on an endless looped tape.

The Expandable Flight Data Acquisition and Recording System panel allows the crew to encode a number of customizable parameters on the recording.
MONTH ... The month of the flight in two digits.
DAY ... The day of the flight in two digits.
T/O GROSS WTX100 ... The takeoff gross weight of the aircraft in 4 digits as hundreds of lb.
FLIGHT ... The company flight number.
LEG ... The leg of the flight.
PILOT IDENTIFICATION ... the identification number of the pilot.

Depending on the type of EFDARS panel, there will be a number of additional control and status elements. The panel shown here has the ability to show the time as recorded on the tape. The time (in GMT) can be set with 4 push buttons directly below the respective digits. The other indicators and push buttons have the following functions:
DISPLAY ... Controls the brightness of the time shown in the display.
GROUND TEST ... toggles the ground test feature of the flight data recorder. The data recorder is stopped by default with the aircraft on the ground.
FDAU ... Failure of the Flight Data Acquisition Unit
DFDR ... Failure of the Digital Flight Data Recorder
DDI ... ???
LAMP TEST ... illuminates all lamps while the button is pressed.
